1989 Caliber 38

Watch Hill, Rhode Island

$84,000

If you are looking for a robust, well-designed cruising boat for blue-water sailing? Then this Caliber 38 is just the ticket. Calibers have a well-deserved reputation for first-rate construction, employing hand laid hulls and decks, bulkheads and interior furniture all glassed in. Her hull is solid fiberglass, and she has a skeg-hung rudder on a cut-away keel with just five feet of draft. Below decks, you'll find spacious living quarters with a dedicated nav station, an ensuite head in the owner's cabin with a separate stall shower, another head handy to the companionway, and an aft cabin capable of sleeping two. Has been very well-maintained. Her Yanmar 44 HP diesel has approximately 3,600 hours and she'll convey with a dinghy and outboard engine.

Hull

A "Double -Support" system for the rudder installation employs two bearings. Chain plates are bedded with 3M 5200, locked to the deck and then through-bolted to the interior knees with backing plates. Constructed of solid fiberglass with 24-ounce woven roving laminate and a fiberglass cored composite deck, the Caliber 38 is intended to be an efficient cruiser combining the stability characteristics of a full-keeled boat with the performance attributes of a fast fin-keeled cruiser. All floors, stringers, bulkheads, shelves, and frames are bonded to the hull with heavy fiberglass tabbing and a proprietary "Quad-Seal" process is used to bond the deck to the hull with 3M 5200 marine adhesive and stainless steel bolts on six-inch centers.
